EDUCATIONAL AWARDS from THE RADNAGE CHARITY

The trustees of The Radnage Charity (registered name since September 2024) plan to provide financial awards to children of Radnage residents.
The Charity traces its origins to the Poor Laws passed in the late 16th century during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and established by order of King Charles I in 1631.
In meeting the charity’s educational aims, trustees wish to ensure that its funds are used to benefit the village’s young who may not otherwise be able to enjoy the opportunities they deserve.
Grants
The initial application process is simple. The child or older student – with help from parents if needed – should apply in writing, setting out the educational purpose for which a contribution could make all the difference. This should be emailed to charity.clerk@radnage.net. The trustees meet 4 times a year – February, June, September and December when applications are discussed. It is helpful if submissions are made in good time for these meetings.
Bursaries
Bursaries are offered as a long-term educational support based on various criteria of need.
Awards may be directed towards young people for whom it would not be possible to access aspects of their further education without additional financial support.
Bursaries may also be awarded for children or young people, who have proven abilities, be it academic or extra curricula the pursuit of which is placing a strain on the parents’ financial resources.
More details of these awards can be found here.
And a application form can be found here.

Movie Night in the Village Hall – 24th April

The PCC of St Mary’s church are planning on showing ‘A Month in the Country’ in the Village Hall on the evening of Thursday 24th April to help raise funds for the church.

A Month in the Country was filmed in St Mary’s in 1986 and stars Colin Firth, Kenneth Branagh (in his first credited role), Natasha Richardson and Patrick Malahide.

There will be a licenced bar with beer, wine and soft drinks.
Doors open at 6pm and the screening will begin at 7pm.

For ticket information, please contact church.secretary@radnage.net

Set in rural Yorkshire during the summer of 1920, the film follows a destitute World War I veteran employed to carry out restoration work on a medieval mural discovered in a rural church while coming to terms with the after-effects of the war.

The film was shot during the summer of 1986 and featured an original score by Howard Blake. The film has been neglected since its 1987 cinema release and it was only in 2004 that an original 35 mm film print was discovered, due to the intervention of a fan.

It has become something of a ‘cult’ film with fans travelling across the world to visit its locations, including to Radnage.
