Can You Help?

Jon Longman is trying to seeking to find out more about the Hunt family who lived in Radnage until the mid-1600s. This may be a long shot but can anyone assist?

Mrs C W Norfolk writes from Surrey that she is trying to trace members of the Stone family who were chair manufacturers. William Stone was born 1804 was a chairmaker and employer and his sons followed in his trade. Mrs Norfolk’s Great Grandfather John being one.

Jaqy Halstead writes:- " I'm looking for any information on my GG Grandparents - George Butler and Annie Strange. George was born in Radnage in 1856. In 1877 he married Annie (or Ann) Sophia Strange and, although Annie was born in Stokenchurch (31 October 1852), the marriage actually took place in Leeds, West Yorkshire, where they settled and raised their family. I have a little information about Annie's family but have nothing about George's family at all. I would be happy to receive any information and would also happily provide information that may help someone else. Please e-mail me at easy2cancel@hotmail.com "

Ivor Clucas writes from Herefordshire: “My wife's 5 x Great Grandfather was Peter George Florida who was baptised in Radnage parish church on 22 Oct. 1769 and described as "a negro child about eight years of age". He married a Phillis Stone also in Radnage on 23 September 1781 and was described as a negro man of this parish. I am interested in tracing any others who have similar roots and trying to discover how Peter George got to Radnage.
I am assuming that the name Florida comes from his origins and he may have been brought over to this country by the Tonyn family who had Florida connections and Reverend C W Tonyn was rector in Radnage at the time of Peter George's baptism and marriage.”

Gayle Crockford (nee Pitcher) has managed to trace her family back to Radnage and Bledlow Ridge and is looking for any information that anybody may be able to give her on further research. So far she has traced back to William Pitcher who married Mary Popejoy in 1807 and moved to Bledlow Ridge in 1812. They had 7 children that she knows of John b. 1808 Charles b. 1810 Maria b.1813 d. 1813 Mary b.1814 Eliza b.1816 d. 1817 James b. 1817 and Emma b. 1825.

Marion Ralson is trying to trace people who may remember her Great Aunt and Grandmother, both of whom lived in Radnage. Both had the surname of Simmons, the Great Aunt being May who lived for a time at Ivy Cottage and Constantia Marion who grew up at Pophleys.

Ingrid Pinos is trying to trace her maternal family.
She writes:  “My grandmother’s maiden name was Frances Maude Jewell.    She was born in Stokenchurch in 1901 and said her parent’s marriage was annulled.  Apparently her paternal grandmother had some connection to gold mines in Africa. Afterwards, her mother (Salina or Selena) remarried a man with the surname of Austin.  For some reason, my grandmother was taken by her grandmother to an orphanage (Dr. Bernardo’s) and was eventually shipped out to Canada.  She never saw her mother again.  Her mother lived in Marlow on the Thames in her later years.”

Mr Jacques Halsey is trying to trace friends of his Aunt Mary Halsey.
He writes: “I would be glad to know if you have any information regarding my aunt Mary Halsey (nee Tillotson) who lived in Radnage from 1955? to 1973?. She is now 86 living in London and would be really pleased to know if some people in Radnage still remember her. She lived in White Cottage not far from the The Three Pigeons.”

Trish Flower is also trying to trace members of her family who lived in Radnage during the early 1800s. Their family name was Bowdrey. Can anybody help?
She e-mailed me as follows: “I have recently discovered my 4XG Grandparents hailed from Radnage in Buckinghamshire. I have a William Bowdrey who married Elizabeth Bowers on 27 December 1795 in Radnage. Elizabeth died 11 May 1802 in Radnage. I have found three children for them:- John born 1797 and who married Mary; Thomas baptised 30 April 1797 who married Ann and Robert born 1796 baptised 7 April 1799. Robert was my 3XG Grandfather and he married Mary Mason who was from Great Missenden on 15 February 1822.  If anybody can help find other relatives or know where graves are or ANY little piece of information I would be very grateful. Please reply to alanlflower@hotmail.com”
